Jay Williams, Josephine Browning and Wayne Banks were at Evergreen Cemetery in North Carrollton Monday to see what needs to be done there after someone ran into and damaged a gate. Williams and Browning are members of the cemetery board, and Banks is caretaker. The board plans work to widen the driveway entrances and gates. Browning and Banks said there are also problems with occasional theft at the cemetery.

Carroll County jail inmate dies

VAIDEN — An inmate at the Carroll-Montgomery County Regional Correctional Facility died early Monday morning from what appears to be a heart attack, Sheriff Clint Walker said.

“The guards were doing an inmate count at 12:30 when they heard someone fall in the shower,” Walker said. “They found John Freeman on the floor.”

As library director for Carroll County, Tollison gets to be around books all the time.

“I fell in love with the library. I like everything about it — ordering books, processing books. I love meeting people and especially working with kids,” she said.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.
