Deputies arrest 2 in Carroll shootout

CARROLLTON — The Carroll County Sheriff’s Department arrested two men after a shooting in North Carrollton on Tuesday night left one man wounded.

Sheriff Jerry Carver said this morning that his department was called at about 8:30 p.m. because of two men shooting at each other near the Shell station.

Landmark facelift

CARROLLTON — The Carrollton Community House is getting some much-needed repairs, the first since its 2001 restoration.

Built in 1936, the building is made of logs and was a project of the Work Progress Administration, a Depression-era program that provided jobs as well as needed structures for the country.

Board toughens rules for pit bulls

CARROLLTON — Pit bull owners in Carroll County may keep their dogs, but they will have to obey stricter regulations when a new ordinance takes effect.

Passed Monday in a 3-2 vote by the Carroll County Board of Supervisors, the ordinance will take effect Aug. 9 after being advertised three times in a newspaper.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
