Carroll County cancels jail contract

CARROLLTON — The Carroll County Board of Supervisors will terminate the contract with Mississippi Correctional Management, which was hired to assist the regional jail at Vaiden.

The board voted unanimously Wednesday to terminate the contract with MCM after giving 30 days’ notice.

Area festivals offer family fun

Vaiden will host its third annual Heritage Festival from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and Mayor Melvin Hawthorne is encouraging everyone to turn out for a good day of family fun.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
