Turbeville served in many roles

VAIDEN — George W. Turbeville Jr., a former Carroll County circuit clerk and former Vaiden mayor, was known as a loving family man who got things done in his work and his political career.

Turbeville died Tuesday at St. Dominic's Hospital in Jackson of heart failure at age 79.

Carroll Co. school board aims to block trailer park

VAIDEN — The Carroll County School Board is seeking to block a mobile home park “Money” Pillai wants to put on 16th Section land he leases on the outskirts of Vaiden.

The City of Vaiden had asked the board to approve the land use.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
