Incumbent Coward loses seat in Beat 3

VAIDEN — Carroll County will start out the new year with three new supervisors after two longtime incumbents were defeated and one retired.

In the closest race Tuesday, Beat 3’s Marvin Coward was ousted by Edward Dill Tucker. The political newcomer received 414 votes, or 52 percent, compared to Coward’s 381 votes, or 48 percent.

Neal wins in comeback

VAIDEN — A familiar face will be returning to the Carroll County Courthouse.

Wilton Neal, after four years of retirement, will assume the duties again of tax assessor and collector.

The 65-year-old Democrat easily defeated Republican Clint White 66 percent to 34 percent in Tuesday’s general election.

Board revises park bylaws

CARROLLTON — The Carroll County Board of Supervisors voted Monday to strengthen the bylaws of the Carroll County Recreation Park board.

George Johnson, chairman of the park board, had asked for more specificity in bylaws to allow the board more control.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
