I’m not a big fan of Halloween.

But as I can see, many people are crazy about Halloween. My father-in-law, Henry Forrest Flemming, was one of those people. Every year, I think about his great Halloween prank of 1990. It fell on a Saturday that year, and it was the perfect time for his pull-out-all-the-stops Halloween prank.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
