Finnegan says he’s enjoyed his time at Greenwood Utilities

When Brian Finnegan checks out Aug. 18 as CEO of Greenwood Utilities, he says he will be leaving with many fond memories.

“It’s been a really good 3½ years,” he said.

Finnegan, 55, announced in June that he would be leaving Greenwood Utilities to become the general manager of Canton Municipal Utilities.

Women’s group to hold installation Sunday

The Dorothy I. Height Quad Counties’ section of the National Council of Negro Women, Inc. (NCNW) will have an inaugural/installation service Sunday.

The service, to be held at 4 p.m. at Bell Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Indianola, will welcome 127 women and 15 male associate members, said the section’s president, Tracey Nance.

Local news matters to Greenwood. It keeps the people informed and connected. It asks the questions they want answered. It elevates what’s good, and it exposes what’s not.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
