District wins state award again

The Greenwood Public School District has won Mississippi’s Torch Award for the second straight year.

The honor recognizes districts that have greater than 90 percent of students receiving free or reduced lunch and at least one school classified as high performing.

Judge stops investigation of attorney’s car crash

A judge is preventing Greenwood police from analyzing medication taken following an accident from an attorney with a well-connected family.

Neysha Sanders, 41, was airlifted to Jackson after crashing her SUV in a single-car wreck Tuesday afternoon on U.S. 49.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
