Hearing for doctor set May 16

A lot of questions may get answered in a week about the April 28 shootout at attorney Lee Abraham’s office that has been the talk of Greenwood ever since.

A preliminary hearing for Dr. Arnold Smith is scheduled for 9 a.m. May 16 in Leflore County Court.

Cities to pay more for county jails to house prisoners

Greenwood and surrounding cities will soon be paying more to house prisoners at the Leflore County Jail.

The Board of Supervisors unanimously voted Monday to raise the price to $35 per prisoner per day because officials said the jail has been losing money since the county took over its operation in February.

Medical genius or deranged killer?

Dr. Arnold Smith learned neurosurgery at the prestigious Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in Minnesota.

Later, he earned a second board certification in what has become his life’s work, radiation therapy.

Family ceremony

Joshlyn Lacy last wore a cap and gown just three years ago at Amanda Elzy High School.

For her mom, Juanita Lacy Larry, it’s been 26 years.

But the mother and daughter will both proudly walk across the stage Saturday with degrees from Mississippi Valley State University.
