Fundraising for Delta Streets Academy going well

Raising funds for the Delta Streets Academy has been an easy sell.

The 2012 Leadership Greenwood class is holding a charity weekend for the new Christian school for at-risk boys founded by T-Mac Howard. It includes a golf tournament, sporting clays competition and $5,000 drawdown on June 29 and 30.

Ex-supe to attempt comeback

A familiar face is re-entering the Leflore County political scene.

Former District 3 Supervisor Preston Ratliff has qualified to run as District 3 election commissioner.

He’ll face Bernard Tolbert of Schlater in the Nov. 6 general election.

Burglars plague neighborhood

But that didn’t deter burglars from going into his carport, breaking into the locked doors of his truck and taking two pistols out of the console and a door storage compartment.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
