IRS hits Clark, wife with $1.6M in tax liens

The Internal Revenue Service filed $1.6 million in tax liens against Leflore County judge candidate Fred Clark and his wife in September, but Clark said some of that amount is consolidated from previous liens on his law firm.

From 2003 to 2008, Clark Law Offices had eight federal tax liens set against it equaling $952,000.

Public school enrollment falls

Enrollment at Greenwood-area public schools is down slightly while most area private schools have more students this year.

The student populations at the Greenwood, Leflore County and Carroll County public districts dropped between 1 percent and 3 percent, continuing a trend.

Police officers talk with residents and neighbors at 204 W. McLaurin St. Monday afternoon after a lawn worker, Patrick Peoples, was shot in the head. Peoples was taken to Greenwood Leflore Hospital to be airlifted to Jackson. Police are looking for a suspect, Neno Brown.

NORTH CARROLLTON — The bestselling, most influential book of all-time is back at Carroll County public schools.

The Bible, banned for religious use in the classroom by the U.S. Supreme Court in 1963, is being taught this semester at J.Z. George High School as an English elective.
