MDCC coach fired after arrest

INDIANOLA — An assistant men’s basketball coach at Mississippi Delta Community College has lost his job after he was charged with felony possession of marijuana.

A state trooper stopped Jeffery Price, 30, in an MDCC-owned van Friday afternoon on U.S. 49 near Doddsville, according to Highway Patrol Public Affairs Officer Tony Dunn.

1958 message still resonates

INDIANOLA — The other night I sat down and read Ralph McGill’s short book “A Church, a School.”

It’s a compilation of newspaper columns he wrote when he was editor of The Atlanta Constitution in 1958. He won the Pulitzer Prize for editorial writing in 1959 for that work.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
