Clark leads in county judge race

Fred Clark holds a 169-vote lead over incumbent Leflore County Court Judge Kevin Adams in unofficial totals with more than 600 paper ballots yet to be counted.

Clark came out with 3,341 votes (51.3 percent) compared to 3,172 (48.7 percent) for Adams on the machines votes.

Leflore board rejects spending limit cut

Elzy wins, takes third playoff spot in Region 3

Amanda Elzy, held back by penalties and turnovers, needed a spark to clinch a playoff spot against Humphreys County Friday night.

Jermaine Whitehead provided it.

The senior intercepted a pass early in the second half and then turned on the jets, smoking Cowboy defenders on his way to the end zone.

Leflore County Circuit Clerk Trey Evans said his office is as ready as it can be for Tuesday’s elections.

“We’re really a-head of schedule. We’ve been pretty bu-sy as far as absentee ballots and things of that nature,” Ev-ans said Friday.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
