Darlene Davis worked 17 years for the Mississippi Department of Corrections and Delta Correctional Facility.

But after she said a group of Sidon students jumped her 15-year-old son Wednesday for the second time in three weeks, Davis said she’s never seen a situation like the one at Amanda Elzy High School.

4 inches of snow expected today

The National Weather Service is predicting 4 inches of snow this afternoon and tonight in Greenwood.

Drivers should slow down when approaching bridges because of the loose rocks on them, Leflore County Road Manager Lennon Powell said.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
