Williams principal can’t OK purchases

The Greenwood school board on Tuesday appointed Assistant Superintendent Jim Mattox as purchasing agent at W.C. Williams Elementary School due to an undisclosed personnel matter.

Principals normally serve as the purchasing agent at their schools, Superintendent Margie Pulley said when questioned by board member Anjuan Brown.

Board hears money requests

Groups brought their annual requests for money to the Leflore County Board of Supervisors on Monday as budget season gears up.

Representatives from Cottonlandia Museum, Mississippi Valley State University, the Leflore County Football Association and Browning Progressive Civic League all appeared before the board.

Cotton man arrested on drug charge

GRENADA — A Greenwood cotton man has been charged in a drug bust in Grenada County.

Grenada County Sheriff Alton Strider said Lewis “Bubba” Buford III of Greenwood was arrested Friday along with four others.

Ratliff to check ballot boxes

The Democratic nomination for District 3 supervisor in Leflore County may not be settled just yet.

Incumbent Preston Ratliff is scheduled to examine ballot boxes Tuesday, according to Circuit Clerk Trey Evans.

The District 3 supervisor lost his re-election bid last week to Anjuan Brown.
