The weather last week reminded Dr. Ray Girnys of Sept. 11, 2001.

Crisp, clear, sunny. Perfect for drinking a cup of coffee outside in the morning.

Back then, Girnys would go into work at Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn at 5:30 a.m., and after rounds, the surgeon would sip a cup off coffee on the corner with a friend.

Absentee ballots at center of District 3 dispute

Voter ID may be on the ballot this November, but it wouldn’t affect the large amount of absentee voting in Leflore County.

At least 152 voters in the District 3 supervisor’s race voted early on absentee ballots because they said they would be out of the county for the Aug. 2 Democratic primary.
