Prep Roundup: Bulldogs defeat Houston for first region victory

The Greenwood High School boys basketball team picked up its first win in Region 3-4A play with a 40-33 victory at Houston High School Tuesday night.
The Bulldogs (12-9 overall, 1-2 in region) led 12-5 after one, 24-16 at the half and 32-29 after the third period.

The Pillow Academy boys soccer team moved a step to wrapping up a playoff spot with a 4-0 win over rival Bayou Academy Monday night in Cleveland.
The Mustangs, who are 6-7 overall and 2-0 in Division II West play, got two goals from Fabrisio Barrera and one each from Ross Bellipanni and Hunter Barry in blanking the Colts.

Pillow Academy senior Skyler Phillips signed a national letter of intent with Southern Arkansas University Monday to continue her education and compete in track and field for the Muleriders.
Southern Arkansas is a NCAA Division II school located in Magnolia, Arkansas, and competes in the Great American Conference.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
