Prep Roundup: Pillow jr. high girls claim district championship

The District 1-5A junior high tournament championship came home to Greenwood Saturday as the Lady Mustangs cruised to a 44-23 win over Bayou Academy in Columbus.
The junior Lady Mustangs (22-1) raced out to a 15-4 lead after the first frame and never looked back. They led 27-12 at the half and 39-18 after the third period.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
