GHS opens baseball season with Leflore win

Greenwood High School opened its 2025 season with a 14-2 win over Leflore County High School Friday in Itta Bena.
The Bulldogs got a solid pitching performance from TJ Barrett, who went all four innings, allowing both runs on one hit, walking five and hitting three batters. He struck out five.

Prep Roundup: Mustangs hold Colts to 2 hits in shutout win

Pillow Academy took advantage of 12 walks, four errors and three hit by pitches in knocking off Lee Academy 16-0 Thursday in a game played in Clarksdale.
The Mustangs (5-3) scored two runs each in the first and third innings and 12 in the fifth frame.

J.Z. George High School’s Jakobi Lofton qualified for the State 2A power lifting meet by placing second at last weekend’s North half meet at East Union High School. Lofton competes in the 308-pound weight class. The junior Jaguar will participate in the state meet at the Mississippi Coliseum on March 29. (By Dustin Alford)

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
