Leflore shut out by Northside; DSA falls

Leflore County dropped a 24-0 decision to visiting Northside High School Friday night in Itta Bena.
The Gators scored a touchdown and 2-point conversion in the first, third and fourth quarters.
Demarius Dunham led Leflore (2-2) with 66 yards on six carries. He also had 68 yards receiving on seven catches.

Chiefs get best of Mustangs

Magnolia Heights came to town and took advantage of miscues by Pillow Academy in a 42-14 District 1-4A win over the Mustangs Friday night at Bill Davis Field.
Magnolia Heights, which moves to 5-0 overall and is 1-0 in league play, led 14-0 after the first quarter, 28-7 at the half and 35-7 after the third period.

Leflore looks to corral Gators

Leflore County put on a show in last week’s 42-0 win over South Delta High School, and the Tigers will need to continue that output as they battle Northside High School this week.
The Tigers and Gators clash at 7 p.m. Friday in Itta Bena.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
