Mustangs’ defense leads way to victory

Pillow Academy secured a spot in the MAIS Class 4A playoffs with a 43-24 victory over visiting Madison St. Joe Friday night at Bill Davis Field.
The Mustangs (4-6, 2-1 in District 1-4A) had four interceptions on defense with one being returned 40-plus yards for a touchdown by senior lineman Wynn Hardin in the fourth quarter.

Pillow girls Division II volleyball state champs

The Pillow Academy girls volleyball team brought home first-place hardware from the MAIS Division II State Tournament on Tuesday.
The Lady Mustangs wrapped up their season with a 3-1 win over Jackson Prep in the championship match at Mississippi College in Clinton.

Carroll Academy head coach Tommy Acy is keeping his fingers crossed his team can bounce back from last week’s 40-13 loss at Winston Academy.
The Rebels will be at home Friday as they host Greenville St. Joe for the MAIS District 2-2A championship. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Gordan Field in Carrollton.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
