Lions drop two games at tourney

Delta Streets Academy lost both of its games at the Kirk Academy Classic Tournament over the weekend.
The Lions fell 49-34 to Starkville Academy Saturday to slip to 10-6 overall. Starkville led 11-4 after one, 19-12 at the half and 37-19 after the third quarter.

Warren, Ray moving to next level

Former Greenwood High School Bulldog Joseph Warren is getting the opportunity to continue playing college football.
Warren, who just graduated from Copiah-Lincoln Community College after a two-year stint in Wesson, has signed with Sam Houston State in Huntsville, Texas. Warren is a 6-foot-4, 290-pound right guard.

Local news matters to Greenwood. It keeps the people informed and connected. It asks the questions they want answered. It elevates what’s good, and it exposes what’s not.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
