A Panther and two Rebels have been selected as the Commonwealth’s Players of the Week for their performances in games played last week.
Amanda Elzy’s Markell McCain is one of the Offensive Players of the Week as he helped the Panthers knock off Greenwood High School 35-14, snapping a 12-game losing skid to the Bulldogs.

Pillow Academy’s girls fast-pitch softball team erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to defeat Starkville Academy 9-0 Thursday at Robertson Field.
The Lady Mustangs (10-8 overall, 4-3 in District 1-5A) outhit the Lady Volunteers 9-2 and got solid pitching from Kylee Nix and Anna Grace Rice in the circle.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
