After first win, Trojans face tough foe

Fresh off winning their first game of the season, the Mississippi Delta Community College football team returns home to take on the Tigers of Northeast Community College.
Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. Thursday at Jim Randall Stadium in Moorhead.

Prep Roundup: Pillow and Leflore volleyball keep rolling

The Pillow Academy and Leflore County girls volleyball teams both picked up wins on the court Monday.
The Lady Mustangs improved to 16-6 overall with a 3-0 sweep at Grenada High School. Pillow won the sets 25-20, 27-25 and 25-19.

Prep Players of the Week: Freeman, two others honored

Leflore County senior D’rion Freeman put together an all-around good performance on the field in last Friday’s 36-16 victory over Greenwood High School.
For his efforts, Freeman has been named as the Commonwealth’s Offensive Player of the Week.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
