Prep State Track Meets: Pillow’s girls capture three titles, CA's Hurst nabs first

The Pillow Academy girls placed third overall with 81 team points and the Lady Mustangs brought home first-place finishes in three events at the MAIS Class 5A state track meet held over the weekend.
All field events were held Friday at JA, and all running events took place Saturday at Jackson Prep.

Carroll hires Boland as baseball coach

Carroll Academy has announced the hiring of Derrik Boland as the new head baseball coach and assistant girls softball coach.
“We are pleased to have Coach Boland join us on staff at Carroll Academy,” said Carroll headmaster Johnny Daves. “He brings a wealth of experience to our school and baseball program.”

Mustangs' season ends in 13-3 loss to Cougars

Pillow Academy’s 2024 baseball season came to a halt as Simpson Academy claimed a 13-3 win in Game 2 of the best-of-three MAIS Class 5A first-round playoff series Friday in Mendenhall.
The Cougars (26-6) outhit Pillow 15-5, received four walks and was aided by two defensive errors by the Mustangs.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
