Greenwood High School junior linebacker/safety Frederrick Ford received his second offer from a school in the Southeastern Conference Tuesday morning when Mississippi State University was on campus to invite him to join their program when he’s done at GHS.

Pillow squads take down BA

The Lady Mustangs and Mustangs of Pillow Academy claimed District 1-4A wins over Bayou Academy Friday night in Cleveland.
The girls won 52-33 to move to 17-5 overall and improve to 5-0 in league play. The boys picked up a 53-48 win, as they climbed to 7-11 overall and 1-4 in district.

Devilettes climb to 3-3 in the SWAC

The Mississippi Valley State University women’s basketball team is making waves in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.
The Devilettes got a team-high 17 points from Ariel Jefferson, as they defeated visiting Bethune-Cookman University 64-55 Saturday night at the R.W. Harrison HPER Complex.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
