Delta Streets Academy Season Preview: Lions ‘pumped up’ for 8-man football

Delta Streets Academy second-year coach Bo Giordano has accepted the challenge head on as he prepares his team for the 2024 season.
Delta Streets will be playing as an independent team in 8-man football this season after making the decision in early May because of a reduction in players.

Greenwood opens football season with ‘business trip’ to Indianola

Taking on an old mentality from past years, Greenwood High School’s football team opens its 2024 season at Gentry High School Saturday in Indianola.
Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
“It’s a business trip, and we are coming to play,” said Gatewood, who is entering his 14th year at the helm of the program and is 104-53 in that span.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
