The former Delta Correctional Facility, located next to the Leflore County Sheriff’s Department, has sat largely empty since private prison operator Correctional Corporation of America closed the prison in early 2012, though Leflore County still uses a portion of the facility as a county jail. A bill to allow the state to open a regional jail there recently passed out of committee and is awaiting a vote in the Mississippi Senate.
