City aims to renovate old library

A 2007 grant helped patch the leaks in the old Greenwood-Leflore Public Library building, but the wood in the vaulted ceiling is rotting and there is no electricity, air conditioning or heating.

Company in talks to open facility here

The Coburn Supply Company, a construction supply company headquartered in Beaumont, Texas, is in negotiations to open a retail and distribution facility in Greenwood.

The new Coburn facility would be at 1201 W. Sycamore Ave. in the Greenwood-Leflore Industrial Park. The address was formerly home to Balkamp Inc.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
