Dr. Arnold Smith, wearing shackles and a tan county jail uniform, arrives in the courtroom Wednesday for a hearing on his mental competency. Judge Breland Hilburn ruled that Smith, the alleged instigator of a botched murder-for-hire plot to kill attorney Lee Abraham, was mentally unfit for trial and ordered proceedings begun to consider whether to commit Smith to a mental institution.
