Title games moving to Birmingham

The Southwestern Athletic Conference is headed back to Birmingham.

A day before teams arrived in Alabama today for SWAC Media Day, the league announced the football championship game and both men’s and women’s basketball tournaments will return to Birmingham for the 2018-19 seasons.

Trey Jones just can’t let football go.

That’s because it had been such a big part of his life until he finished his final season at Mississippi Valley State University in 2016. He grew up playing the sport and had a standout career as a hard-hitting defensive back at Greenwood High School.

During his childhood in Greenwood, the 25-year-old teacher and coach was fortunate to have many positive influences in his life, including his mother, Lynwonda Cross; his great-grandmother, Rosie Cross; and his former football coach at Greenwood High School, Clinton Gatewood.
