Dogs advance to 2nd round

Greenwood took care of business and quickly turned its attention to an old nemesis.

The Bulldogs dominated the second half to defeat Amory 48-25 Friday night at Bulldog Stadium in the first round of the North 4A playoffs. They will host Noxubee County, a 28-3 winner Friday over New Albany, in the second round.

Greenwood High School sophomore wide receiver Daylin Metcalf has developed into a real threat in the passing game, proving he knows what to do with the ball in his hands. Metcalf and the Bulldogs host Amory Friday in the opening round of the North 4A playoffs. Metcalf had five receptions for 50 yards in last week’s 21-14 overtime win over Clarksdale that handed GHS its sixth straight Region 3-4A championship.

Under Clinton Gatewood, Greenwood High School has become a fixture in the playoffs.

The Bulldogs are in the postseason for the ninth straight season, the seventh time as the Region 3-4A champions. But Gatewood’s expectations are much higher than just qualifying for the playoffs.
