Valley coach excited about talent upgrade

Vincent Dancy is excited about the infusion of talent his down-trodden program has experienced in the offseason.

After a disappointing first year at Mississippi Valley State, Dancy and his staff have brought in 43 newcomers, including more than a dozen transfers who are expected to make an immediate impact.

Bulldogs bounce Leflore

With head coach Clinton Gatewood watching from up above in the press box, the Greenwood Bulldogs had no problem dispatching off undermanned Leflore County.

The Bulldogs led 34-6 at the half and eased their way into a 48-12 rout of the Tigers Friday at Bulldog Stadium in the season opener for both teams.

Mustangs start out with bang

Pillow Academy played some salty defense and made just enough plays on offense to open the season with a huge win.

The Mustangs held off Jackson Academy to notch a 26-21 victory over the Raiders Friday night at PA’s Bill Davis Field. And in the process served notice — Pillow will be a contender in Class 5A this season.

Greenwood's head man may not coach vs. Leflore County

Clinton Gatewood has coached in 121 straight games for Greenwood High School, but that streak appears to be coming to an end.

On Wednesday, Gatewood said he was pretty sure he would not be on the sidelines Friday when the Bulldogs host cross-county rival Leflore County High School for the season openers for both teams.
