Great season ends with loss for Elzy girls

HOLLY SPRINGS — Amanda Elzy’s impressive season came to a disappointing end here Friday night.

In their deepest postseason run in about 30 years, the Lady Panthers lost 65-60 to Holly Springs in the second round of the MHSAA Class 3A playoffs. Their season ends at 22-8, while Holly Springs (21-10) advances to play Choctaw Central.

Local news matters to Greenwood. It keeps the people informed and connected. It asks the questions they want answered. It elevates what’s good, and it exposes what’s not.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
