Power project to miss deadline

JACKSON — Mississippi Power Co. says its Kemper County power plant won’t be finished by the original May 2014 deadline but will start service sometime later that year.

The unit of Atlanta-based Southern Co. will have to repay $133 million in federal tax credits it received with the condition of meeting the May deadline.

Museum damaged by tornado to reopen

HATTIESBURG— The African American Military History Museum will open its lobby to the public Saturday for the first time since it suffered devastating damage during the Feb. 10 tornado.

The Hattiesburg American reports the museum will be open from 7 a.m. to noon during Hattiesburg’s eighth annual Mobile Street Renaissance Festival.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
