Ashley Furniture adds Ripley support facility

RIPLEY — Ashley Furniture Industries has announced that it has acquired a 260,000-square-foot building in Ripley for a support facility.

The company says in a news release that it purchased the former Albany Industries plant. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Ill. law firm wins new trial for jury award

JACKSON — The Mississippi Supreme Court on Thursday threw out a $103 million jury verdict to businessman Lavon Evans Jr. who claimed a Chicago law firm defrauded him.

The Supreme Court ordered a new trial on the issue of damages in the lawsuit that Evans filed in Jones County in 2008.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
