The son of a three-generation cotton-growing family, Gene Dattel grew up to the rhythm of the cotton crop in Ruleville.
To young Dattel, the crop was just the scenery of home. These days, he describes cotton as “the oil of the 19th century,” and “the single-most important determinant of our history.”
