Teresita Hooper, Greenwood businesswoman and civic volunteer, dies

An arrangement of flowers from Teresita Hooper's garden was still in full bloom in her kitchen Saturday.

After cutting them Friday afternoon, Mrs. Hooper, 61, went to her bedroom for a nap. She died there Friday, Nov. 14, 2003, of heart failure, apparently in her sleep.

The best way to prevent fire deaths is to realize that they can happen in anyone's home, Greenwood Fire Chief Larry Griggs says.

Unfortunately, most people don't heed that advice, an attitude that leads to preventable deaths such as that of a 3-year-old boy in Itta Bena last week, he told the Greenwood Voters League Wednesday night.
