Inside the cab of a backhoe was a good place to spend the morning as a light but steady rain continued to soak Greenwood today. "That doesn't stop us," said Herbert Davis, a Greenwood Public Works employee from Cruger who was waiting for his crew to arrive before he began digging up a sewer line along Poplar Avenue.

The Leflore County Circuit Clerk's Office has gone online, offering access to civil lawsuit documents, judgment rolls and soon marriage licenses through a public records Web site.

Now, judges, lawyers, plaintiffs, defendants or anyone who's interested in a lawsuit can view it and print a copy without stepping foot in the courthouse.

Legislative funding helping MDCC avoid growing pains

Mississippi Delta Community College has more students than ever before, and without state lawmakers' efforts, the school would not have enough space for them, MDCC President Larry Bailey said Monday.

The Legislature passed a funding bill, earlier than usual, that designates 62 percent of the state budget to all levels of education.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
