Fulfilling a need

Wes Sterling survived a near-fatal accident last week that occurred within site of the Greenwood radio station where he works, and on Tuesday, some of his radio buddies gave him a statewide on-air tribute.

Sterling was in guarded condition in Greenwood Leflore Hospital intensive care unit this morning.

Gaming machines seized

A candidate for Leflore County supervisor was arrested Tuesday evening when Greenwood police officers, clad in camouflage suits, seized five illegal gaming machines from his store.

Sylvester Hoover, 46, of 116 Ridgeland Road was charged with possession of an illegal gaming device and released on cash bond.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
