Shooting suspect wrongly released

An amputee charged with shooting a Leflore County woman at Gas & Go on the U.S. 82 bypass was released on her own recognizance for medical reasons but should not have been, says Greenwood Police Chief Ronnie White.

Patricia Ann Harper, 41, of 6256 County Road 127 is charged with aggravated assault.

Greenwood retailer Leslie Kornfeld dies at age 90

Leslie Kornfeld grew up in both his father's store and his synagogue and never strayed far from either place.

Mr. Kornfeld, 90, died of respiratory failure Saturday at Greenwood Leflore Hospital. He had Alzheimer's disease. Services are at 2 this afternoon at Ahavith Rayim Cemetery on Bowie Lane.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.
