Supervisors looking at ordinance on junk cars

Junk cars parked in front yards have long been an eyesore to neighbors in Leflore County subdivisions, a majority of the county's supervisors says.

Now, the Board of Supervisors is revisiting a proposal to ban the practice in all unincorporated parts of the county.

Christmas activities abound

Thanksgiving wasn't two days gone, and Santa already had his eye on the people picking out Christmas trees and wreaths Saturday.

A giant, nylon likeness of the jolly old man greeted people as they entered the rows of Douglas and Frazier firs at Dixieland Christmas Trees.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
