Apparent MDEZA grant is loan board doesn't want

A Mid-Delta Empowerment Zone Alliance grant for $158,000 that has already been spent on Leflore County's business incubator has suddenly turned into a loan that the Board of Supervisors doesn't want.

The board went behind closed doors Monday to discuss its options, including the possibility of a lawsuit against MDEZA.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
