Chef always knew what he wanted to do

Even as a young child, O’Ryan Patterson always knew he wanted to be a chef.

“People would ask me when I was younger what I wanted to be when I grew up. The answer was always the same. I said I wanted to be a chef,” he said.

Swimmer takes benefit challenges seriously

Zane Hodge has been swimming Lake Chicot in Lake Village, Arkansas, annually for the last eight years to raise funds for diabetes research.

Diabetes, to the Greenwood native, is an illness that needs more attention and awareness.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
