Weather played havoc with several games involving Greenwood-area teams, but a few still managed to get on the hardcourt Friday.
Amanda Elzy closed out its regular season with a trip to Belzoni to take on Region 3-3A foe Humphreys County.
The Lady Panthers got their second straight win as they beat the Cowgirls 42-34 to improve to 6-14 and finish 3-5 in league play.
Kennedy Johnson led the way with 20 points for Elzy, which led 8-6 after one, 16-14 at the half and 28-22 after the third period.
Zoreya Beckworth tacked on eight points, and Evelyn Kelly had five.
In the boys game, Elzy let a 24-20 halftime lead slip away as the Cowboys rallied for a 46-40 victory.
The Panthers (6-14, 3-5) trailed 15-13 after one, led 24-20 at the half and fell behind 28-26 after the third frame.
Perveontah Stancil had 11 points, and Keithrick Parker tallied seven. Zakavion McClung finished with six points.
The Region 3 Tournament will be held at Winona High School next week.
- Carroll Academy: The Lady Rebels came up a bit short in the District 2-4A Tournament championship game as they dropped a 32-26 decision to Winona Christian Friday night at Greenville St. Joe.
Carroll (12-12) will play in the North 4A Tournament next week at Marshall Academy. The top four teams from district advance to North State.
- Greenwood High: Greenwood’s final Region 3-4A matchup of the regular season at Senatobia was pushed back from Friday to Saturday. The girls will tip off at 1 p.m.
The Region 3 Tournament will be played next week at Clarksdale High School.
- Leflore County: Leflore also had its regular-season finale postponed for a day as the Lady Tigers and Tigers will play at Northside High School Saturday at 4 p.m.
The Region 3-2A Tournament will be held next week at Coahoma County.
- J.Z. George: J.Z. George had its final regular-season games against Coffeeville canceled Friday night with both teams not in school.
After trying to reschedule for Saturday, it could not be worked out, so the Lady Jags and Jaguars return next week at the Region 4-2A Tournament at Choctaw County.
The girls, the No. 6 seed, will play Tuesday at 4 p.m. against third-seed Bruce. The Jags, the third seed, play Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. against sixth-seeded Eupora. If the girls pull the upset, they will play No. 2 seed East Webster Thursday at 7 p.m. Should the Jaguars beat Eupora, they would take on Bruce at 8:30 p.m. Thursday. The consolation and championship games are Friday.
