The Pillow Academy Lady Mustangs wrapped up a perfect District 1-5A season with a win in the championship game of the junior high tournament Saturday at Pillow.
The Lady Mustangs finished 20-2 overall and went 12-0 in district play, which included 10-0 during the regular season and two wins in the conference tournament last week.
Pillow knocked off Bayou Academy 40-18 in the title game as it led 12-4 after the first frame, 20-11 at the half and 26-15 after the third period.
Alanna Hodo led the Lady Mustangs with 19 points, five steals and five rebounds. Ella Wallace contributed 14 points and two steals.
Pillow beat Magnolia Heights 43-24 in the tourney semifinals. This is Pillow’s fifth straight junior high conference title under head coach Durwin Carpenter and assistant coach Mignon Hodges.
- Carroll Academy: The Lady Rebels and Rebels brought home first-place hardware after winning the District 2-4A junior high tournament Saturday at Central Holmes in Lexington.
The girls beat the host school 24-19 to finish the season with a 12-8 record. The Lady Trojans led 8-2 after the first period but a 7-0 run in the second gave Carroll a 9-8 lead at the half. Central Holmes led 10-9 after the third.
Central Holmes came in as the top seed, and Carroll was the second seed.
Ann Shelby Whitworth led the Lady Rebels with 10 points, and Catherine Mullins had six points. Madelyn Singleton tacked on five points and grabbed 13 rebounds.
The Rebels capped their season with a 46-32 win over Winona Christian in the championship game. Carroll finished 19-2 overall and 10-0 in district play, which includes the two wins in the tournament last week.
Owen Garrett led Carroll with 18 points, and Nathan Matthews had 13. Cohen Blaylock tacked on nine points.
The Rebels were the top seed, and WCS was the second seed.
