MDCC playing at Northwest Thursday

Mississippi Delta Community College hits the road to battle the Rangers of Northwest Mississippi Community College at 7 p.m. Thursday in Senatobia.
The Trojans are coming off a 47-0 homecoming loss to Holmes to drop to 0-6 overall and 0-3 in the MACCC’s North Division. MDCC has been outscored 244-20 through its first six games.

No more tailgating at schools this year

For Dr. Kenneth Pulley, superintendent of the Greenwood Leflore Consolidated School District, safety comes first — always.
He provided that observation Tuesday to explain his reaction to a prompt from the Mississippi High School Activities Association that tailgating no longer be allowed on school grounds.

Jack Kirk, Elliott Flowers, Brantley Counts and Ruben Martinez, along with Skylar Phillips, who was unable to attend, were honored from the 2024-2025 school year with athletic awards that were presented at last Friday’s football game against Heritage Academy. Kirk received the Jonathan Nichols Award; Flowers received the Louis Coleman Award and the Stewart Patridge Award; Counts received the Cole Whitfield Award; Martinez received the Sunjay Chawla Award; and Phillips received the Mitch Mitchell Award.

Prep Players of the Week: Two Rebels, two Lions, one Tiger honored

Three of the four teams who came out on the winning side last Friday night had players who stood out and have earned the Commonwealth’s Players of the Week honor.
Carroll Academy used the 1-2 punch of Cohen Blaylock and Collin Hurst in taking down District 2-2A foe Indianola Academy 49-27 to move to 4-4 overall and 2-0 in league play.
