Basketball All-Stars: 2 chosen to play in games

Frederrick Ford of Greenwood High School and Jeremy Gilbert of Leflore County High School will be playing in the 2026 North/South All-Star basketball games Friday at Mississippi College in Clinton.

Mississippi Valley State junior Michael James was named a first team All-American Monday. It was reported by HBCU Sports that the Byhalia native intends to enter the transfer portal.

Lady Mustangs record 3-0 victory

The Pillow Academy girls soccer team moved to 4-0 on the season with a 3-0 win over visiting Jackson Prep Monday at Chazzy Moor Field.
Pillow got one goal each from Riley Coleman, Karen Hernandez and Mere Austin Wilkey. Mary Laine Dyksterhouse had one assist.
The Lady Mustangs will host Hartfield Academy Monday.

Road not kind to Diamond Devils and Devilettes

Weekend trips to Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Florida A&M were not kind to the Mississippi Valley State baseball and women’s fast-pitch softball teams.
The Diamond Devils played three games at UAPB and lost all three to fall to 4-14 overall and start SWAC play at 0-3.
