Delta Streets Academy soccer coach Connor Altman said Thursday’s narrow 3-2 win over East Rankin Academy was just what his team needed.
“It’s the first time we’ve had to dig really deep in a half to pull out a win,” said Altman, whose Lions (15-2) have now won seven in a row. “They (ERA) didn’t put many shots in on goal the whole game. Their two goals they got because we got lazy on the ball. We were lazy and soft in the first half.”
East Rankin scored at the one-minute and 15-minute marks. In the second half, sophomore Danny Vargas got the ball rolling for DSA with a goal at the 44-minute mark on an assist from Daniel Lara. Five minutes later, Vargas scored unassisted to make it 2-2. At the 53-minute mark, Daniel Crain scored the game-winner on an assist from Chris Zuniga.
The Lions play at Greenville St. Joe Saturday at 10 a.m. They host Starkville Academy Monday at 6 p.m. and go to Heritage Academy Thursday at 5 p.m.
