The Leflore County boys basketball team went on a 13-0 run to start the fourth quarter on Friday night, turning a tight matchup into an easy 62-46 victory over visiting Leland.
Senior forward DJ Jones led the Tigers (8-15, 4-4 Region 3-2A) with 17 points and six rebounds.
D’Arnez Bell (13 points) knocked down three 3-pointers in the second quarter, including a buzzer beater to give the Tigers a 32-27 edge at halftime.
Dezmond Ray added seven points and Kamari Buck also chipped in five.
In the girls game, the Lady Tigers moved to 4-4 in Region 3-2A play with a 49-29 win over the Lady Cubs.
Leflore (8-14 overall) jumped out to a 9-3 lead after the first period and increased their advantage to 27-8 by halftime. The Lady Tigers led 45-14 after the third quarter.
Ja’kya Thompson led Leflore with 18 points and seven rebounds. Jameshia Kyles had 11 points and six boards, and Monica Coleman tacked on five points and three rebounds. Jakyrra Sandifer had five points and five rebounds, and Antionette Holston had seven rebounds to go with two points.
Leflore goes to Riverside Tuesday.
- Greenwood High: The Lady Bulldogs rallied from a first-quarter deficit to beat Region 3-4A foe Yazoo City 53-45 Friday night in Yazoo City.
The Lady Bulldogs (8-13, 2-4) trailed 14-7 after one but took a 29-21 lead at the half. They led 40-28 after the third period.
Alexus Taylor paced GHS with 23 points, six rebounds and two steals, and Janaya Scott had 11 points, six assists, six rebounds and four steals. Arieyanna Glover tacked on 10 points, six steals, four assists and three rebounds. Shiloh Hatch had five points and five rebounds.
Greenwood hosts Clarksdale Tuesday.
- J.Z. George: The Lady Jags secured their first Region 4-2A win of the season with a 38-36 win at Choctaw County Friday.
J.Z. George (5-14, 1-4) led 7-5 after one, 18-11 at the half and 31-21 after the third.
Aaniyah Williams led the Lady Jags with 20 points. Natijah Basin tacked on eight, and Denijah Walls had four points.
J.Z. George hosts Coffeeville Friday.
- Amanda Elzy: The Lady Panthers fell behind early and could never make up the difference in a 54-27 Region 3-3A loss at Yazoo County Friday.
Yazoo County held leads of 12-1 after one, 21-13 at the half and 39-21 after the third period.
Kennedy Johnson had 11 points, and Zoreya Beckworth tacked on 10 for the Lady Panthers (4-14, 1-5).
Amanda Elzy entertains Winona Tuesday.
